Right on.

I think Hawkins is a nice looking prospect. I'd love to know his interest level in UC.

He definately needs to work on his handles and ability to create, but he has a nice smooth touch for a kid 6'6". He is very athletic and can leap.

Strengths: quickness, leaping ability, shooting

Weaknesses: dribbling, strength

The sky is really the limit for Hawkins. He is a legitimate 6-foot-7 now with long arms, a lot of athleticism, and range that extends to the three point line. Hawkins is now locked into being a face up power forward as opposed to a small forward, but he looks to still be growing on and off the floor. He struggled at times inside with stronger players, but Hawkins runs the floor very well, has good hands, and can be a mismatch at the next level due to his shooting ability. Once he gets stronger his game is going to go to a new level.

Rated 141 by Rivals. Generally speaking a good prospect with good upside. He would love to land at Ohio State.

Strengths:
Deontae is a thin combo forward that is improving by leaps and bounds. He is very, very long and is skilled enough to play the 3 one day down the road. Right now he is more of a skilled power forward. He is a solid athlete and has a tremendous upside. He can step out and shoot effectively to 17 feet.

Weaknesses:
Hawkins is continueing to develop his handle though it still needs work. He is a decent rebounder but needs to greatly improve his strength. He can be muscled out of the paint right now.

Bottom Line:
Deontae has started to realize some of that potential during the summer AAU season. He is a nice talent that will continue to develop and improve.

Last night, for a lot of us sitting along the baseline, Deontae Hawkins of All-Ohio Red was that kid. The first kid to really pop during opening round play. Hawkins goes about 6- foot-7 innate qualities that made me think the kid really has a chance to move from a mid-major plus recruit to a bona fide high major stud. Hawkins is long, and while one of my favorite dudes in this business likes to talk about length not being a skill, if you look up and down the rosters of teams that go deep in NCAA tournament play, you’re going to find a great deal of athletic length. One head coach recently told his top assistant, who’s new to that particular staff and was brought in because he’s the complete package with a number of years in the business, “if I take all the kids you’re recruiting I’m gonna have a bunch of long/athletic guys.” The assistant’s response: “Yep, and we’re gonna win a lot of EEF-Ing games too!” Well, a guy like Hawkins, if developed properly strength and skill-wise (and he’s in no way grossly deficient in either department) will win you a lot of games at the next level if he continues to play with the passion and bounce that he exhibited last night. Hawkins ran the floor, finished through contact at the rim with authority, and showed enough handle and range to wet the taste buds of every scout watching. His body and lateral movement, not to mention his length, makes you envision a lock down defender once he’s told he has to do it to get on the court (like every kid is besides a handful).

Deontae Hawkins , PF, All-Ohio- Having seen him each of the past few years at Dayton (Ohio) Dunbar, we know what the three star four man can do. Hawkins is a long 6- foot-7 , is starting to fill out a bit and is a high level athlete, When he plays with consistent energy, his activity around the rim can be a difference and he looks an awful lot like an A-10 type four man.
