I think being in a p5 is more of a football thing. It definetly doesn't hurt but Many jobs in non p5 leagues are better than low to mid tier p5 programs.

Dude P5 + BE means a ton, especially for recruiting. Of next years top 50 recruiting classes, only 5 teams are not from the Power 6 conferences. #24 is Colorado #33 is TCU #11 is Illinois #36 is Auburn #44 is Ole Miss #55 is LSU All those schools are not as good of programs as UC but their affiliation with the P6 has them with higher rated recruiting classes than UC. |

Bringing in 4 to 5 guys because your program is depleted results in a high ranking classes, but doesn't make the results on the court better. Also teams that are terrible tend to have at least playing time they can offer. So getting 4 high recruits 1 year, may result in a terrible class the next. We can always cherry pick schools to prove our argument. #72 Tennesse #80 Kansas State #90 Baylor #81 Notre Dame #94 NC State #97 Missouri #99 Northwestern #109 Nebraska #125 Virginia (Does this ranking make them a bad program?) #141 Rutgers #150 Penn State (Tired for last with 0 recruits that matter) #150 Washington State #??? Boston College (Apparently doesn't even have a recruit) |

Akron's home winning streak comes to an end. Kent State beats Akron 70-67.

My main point was not Cherry picked. 5/50 were from non P6 conferences. Just 10% of the top 50 recruiting classes came from non power leagues. Whats a job if your limited on the players you can choose from? Mick has coached and developed his players and program into national relevance. Most young star players want to play in a league that will get them a ton of exposure.. I listen to about 10-12 College basketball podcasts and all the national ones, rarely mention any leagues out side of the p6 power structure. They'd rather talk about a losing Syracuse team in the ACC than talking about 2 winning programs in the American. And they only talk about us when we force their hand to. Exposure is everything. You don't get much exposure in non power leagues. The American is actually kinda lucky in that we have the ESPN deal. Most other non P6 leagues are rarely on TV, or are on Friday nights or on NBC sports channel which no one watches. IF you move from the lowest p5 school ( like Rutgers or Depaul) sure, the very very top end of the non P6 schools are better. But I'd take Depaul or Rutgers over the bottom 7 jobs in our league. |

a propos of nothing....just looking at Iowa States schedule...they are so us last year - losing to Gonzaga by 2, UC by 1 in ot, Baylor by 2, Texas by 2, Kansas by 4...just a basket here or there from being top 15 - brings back frustrating memories of last year
